Welsh Open Judo Championships 2008

The following PSUK squad members competed in the Welsh Open on Sunday 5th October 2008; this was a very hard event with an entry in excess of 180 players, meaning that several categories had around 20 competitors. All our players excelled winning several contests each by ippon by big throws, Stuart Harris and Lauren Slater lost for bronze medals and others could have also made it to the medal fights.

All our players showed that they can compete with the best Britain has to offer and showed a very high standard of contest judo, looking at the entries it was not possible to predict the eventual medallists.

 Well done to you all.

Stuart Harris under 73K

Kate Harris under 70k

Jason Moore under 90 k

Lee Holley under 81k

Lauren Slater under 70k

Report  re PSUK Judo Championships 2008

Hosted by Merseyside Police over the 5th to 7th September some 107 competitors competed at the IM Marsh University Campus, as always some excellent judo was seen particularly from Duncan Jones West Mercia Police who at his first championships won the over 100k in the Open and Veterans categories also from Sam Delahay Avon and Somerset and Jason Moore Grampian Police both in the Under 90 kilo Open category who eventually met in the final with Sam taking that title plus  the Open category. Other very promising new comers were Stuart Harris West Midlands under 73 kilos and  Kate Harris West Midlands  under 70 kilos.
Jason Moore was the referees choice for player of the day receiving the award at the presentation dinner which  was held at Adelphi Hotel where all were  accommodated  I am sure all will long remember the experience. Acting Chief Constable Graeme Gerrard  Cheshire Police who has recently taken the  chair of PSUK Judo attended the event  making a memorable speech at  the dinner , promising to try judo at his local club with Andy Moss.

PSUK Judo are very grateful to Mark Brew and Les Mercer  and their team for organising a superb event and making all so very welcome.
